A motorist “drove his vehicle” into a security gate outside the White House complex Tuesday night and an arrest was made, the U.S. Secret Service said.
The crash occurred at about 10:40 p.m. at a vehicle gate at 17th and E Streets NW, the agency said.
It was not immediately clear early Wednesday why the vehicle was driven into the gate. The site is about 300 to 400 yards from the president’s residence itself.
The motorist was immediately arrested by members of the Uniformed Division of the Secret Service, the agency said. It was not clear how fast the vehicle was traveling or whether the motorist was injured.
The driver was not identified by name, and the charge was not reported.
Both the Secret Service and the D.C. police assessed the vehicle and determined it to be safe, according t
