Millions of pensioners will be receiving payments of up to £300 from November 1.

That's the date when this year's Winter Fuel Payments will start to be handed out.

Pensioners will qualify if they have annual incomes below £35,000, and around nine million will get the energy bills support this year.

Those aged under 80 will get £200 while those over 80 will get the higher amount of £300.

This is because older people tend to spend more time in the house, so rely on their heating for longer.
