NEW YORK (PIX11) -- With the federal government shutdown continuing, millions of New Yorkers run the risk of losing SNAP benefits as early as November 1.

SNAP, formerly called the Food Stamp Program, helps people living near or below the poverty line afford groceries.

According to Gov. Kathy Hochul, the Trump Administration indicated that it will not allow states to distribute federal funding for SNAP recipients.

In an interview with WTEN, a Nexstar affiliate in Albany, Joel Berg, the CEO of Hunger Free America, stated that if benefits are not restored by the end of October, negative impacts will even expand to retailers in New York.
