The state government says a new $1.1 million police beat in Burleigh Heads will address anti-social behaviour and stop "thugs" harassing locals.
"[The community] was frustrated by a lack of police resources," the LNP's local member, Hermann Vorster, said.
"[This] part of the Gold Coast has become plagued by anti-social issues with people abusing substances, walking down James Street harassing customers, harassing staff."
An additional two officers will staff the beat on Park Avenue during business hours between Monday and Friday.
Four additional officers from the Palm Beach Police Station, about five kilometres south, will be a "ready presence" for after-hours incidents, according to Queensland Police.
