AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about an increase in car break-ins from now through the end of the year.

Deputies urge residents to take out any valuables from their cars and hide them somewhere they can’t be seen from a window.

Officials also recommend locking vehicles at all times.

The sheriff’s office adds residents should never leave a gun in their car unless it’s secured in a locked garage.

Anyone who sees someone trying to break into a vehicle or pulling on door handles should call 911.
