Local 3 News has learned on Thursday that the McMinn County director of schools has died unexpectedly.

Dr. Julie Goodin was appointed to the post over the summer after the retirement of Dr. Lee Parkison.

She was a product of McMinn County Schools, having graduated from McMinn Central, where she was a top student athlete.

She went on to play basketball at Clemson University.

Dr. Goodin worked her way up in the school system, from substitute teacher, to bus driver, teacher, administrator, and director of schools.

Mickey Blevins, a former McMinn County director of schools, said, "She loved her family deeply. She loved her schools and students. This is a devastating loss to all of us. Many and strong prayers for the family and our schools in the days ahead!"
