CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit ruled to uphold an injunction that blocks SF 2340 in Iowa.
The law would allow law enforcement to file criminal charges against people with outstanding deportation orders or who previously had been denied entry to the U.S.
The law has hit road blocks since before it was set to be enacted on July 1, 2024. It brought protesters out against it last year in Iowa City.
A ruling in June 2024 blocked the law, and a ruling in January of this year also upheld the injunction blocking its enforcement.
Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird has sought to allow the enforcement of the law. They’ve told TV9 in the past “the illegal re-entry legislation does not affect those who are in the country legally. The legislation makes
