The Alberta government will be tabling back-to-work legislation on Monday to end the teacher’s strike which is closing its third week.
The government gave formal notice on Thursday that it plans to introduce Bill 2, the Back-to-School Act, on Monday.
Bill 2 would still need to go through the proper legislative process, but according to the order paper, it would be able to go through multiple stages in one day.
“We know that this strike is causing harm to kids,” said Alberta Premier Danielle Smith. “We know it’s causing harm to teachers…, and we want to be able to end [the strike] for the sake of both frontline teachers as well as students and their families[.]
