HONOLULU (Island News) -- Alaska Airlines' nationwide ground stop on Thursday due to an an IT outage resulted in several Hawaiian Airlines flights experiencing delays or cancellations.
The ground stop of Alaska and Horizon Air flights was caused by "a failure at our primary data center," the airline said. The outage began around 12:30 p.m. HST on Oct. 23. The ground stop for Alaska flights was lifted at 8:30 p.m. HST.
On Twitter on Thursday night, Alaska said, "We are working to get our operations back on track as quickly and safely as possible. Since this afternoon, we've had more than 229 flight cancellations. Additional flight disruptions are likely as we reposition aircraft and crews throughout our network."
