Former homicide detective Charlie Bezzina has torn into the Allan government’s handling of Victoria’s bail system, accusing it of “having blood on its hands” for repeatedly releasing dangerous offenders back into the community.
Speaking to Sky News host Steve Price, Mr Bezzina said the government’s approach to bail reform had “failed victims” and created a justice system that no longer reflected community safety or common sense.
“When they come out with comments such as that, ‘it’s for the benefit of the community’, how the hell can you work that out?” he said.
“To let an alleged offender who’s committed multiple crimes back in the community is absolutely nonsense.”
