GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Green Bay police collected 275 pounds of unwanted medications at their three locations alone during Saturday’s national drug take-back day.

Police set up drop boxes at Emplify Health by Bellin, HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital, and Aurora Baycare Medical Center for a few hours on Saturday.

The day is designed to give people a safe way to dispose of medications that are expired or for people who don’t use them anymore.

Officials say it also helps educate people on the dangers of throwing medication into the trash, keeping the medications from seeping into our waterways and ground, as well as keeping them away from people who might misuse them.

If you missed Saturday’s event, there are multiple permanent drug drop boxes in the area.
