PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Authorities are investigating after a fire broke out at the home of a Portland City Councilor early Sunday morning.
Fire officials were called to the scene of the fire on Southeast Caruthers Street, near Southeast 122nd Avenue, around 2:40 a.m. Sunday.
Upon arrival, they found several cars and a carport on fire, and were able to extinguish the blaze.
The extent of the damage, including to the home itself, is not clear at this time.
In a statement to FOX 12, Councilor Candace Avalos confirmed that the fire occurred at her home:
“Late last night, I woke up to my car, car port, and home engulfed in flames. I’m grateful for the quick response from Portland firefighters who prevented the fire from spreading even further. I was able to get out safely with my cat Valen
