Victoria's war on stamping out elder abuse seems to be hitting home, with a stark increase of reports to police.
The state's Crime Statistics Agency data reveals reports of elder abuse victims aged over 65 rose 42 per cent in the last five years to September, while last year alone there were 7390 reports of elder abuse. Two-thirds of victims are women and a third are male.

In October 2024, Victoria Police became the first force in Australia to partner with the aged care sector in an effort to stop the abuse, with a specialist team visiting facilities statewide and holding community forums.
