Further plans to celebrate Rutherglen turning 900 years old have been highlighted by South Lanarkshire Council. ‌

Councillors at the Cambuslang and Rutherglen area committee meeting on October 8 heard of the plans to host a civic function in Rutherglen Town Hall to celebrate the milestone. ‌

A date is yet to be confirmed for the civic event but it is expected to happen in June next year, and will be attended by around 100 guests, including elected members, community leaders, representatives from local organisations and invited dignitaries. ‌

The function will include a formal lunch, refreshments and short addresses from invited speakers. Article continues below
