MINNEAPOLIS — The Minneapolis Federation of Educators (MFE) announced Monday night that union members voted 92% to authorize a strike. MFE must give Minneapolis Public Schools at least 10 days notice before any strike begins.

"This does NOT mean a strike will happen. MFE’s joint executive board will make that decision at a later date," MFE leaders said in a Facebook post early Tuesday .

For the past several months, MFE has been negotiating with the district on a new contract. State law requires district employees and the district to bargain every two years.

MFE spokesperson Megan Boldt told KARE 11 they haven’t been able to reach an agreement with the district. She said the two biggest things they are focusing on are class size limits and limiting the caseload for educators working wi
