An Albertville mother accused of abusing her 2-year-old child pleaded guilty Tuesday, according to the Marshall County District Attorney’s Office.
This comes after her child had to be flown to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham for life-saving surgery back on Nov. 23, 2022.
Right before a jury trial for the case began Tuesday, the defendant, 33-year-old Carmen Casanova, informed the court she wished to change her plea to guilty.
The judge released the jury after accepting Casanova’s guilty plea.
The DA's office says Casanova pleaded blind as charged in the indictment to aggravated child abuse of a child less than 6, which is a Class A Felony. The DA’s office explains a “blind plea” means they offered no plea deals and reached no agreement with the defendant regarding her sentence.
