The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has uncovered a cash-for-jobs scam worth about ₹888 crore in Tamil Nadu’s Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department (MAWS). The agency alleged that bribes ranging from ₹25 to ₹35 lakh were collected from candidates in exchange for government jobs.
According to the ED, over 2,538 candidates were recruited, for the positions varying from engineers to officers. The appointments also involved large-scale bribery by politicians and officials.
The agency has asked the state police to register an FIR and handed over evidence including documents, photos, and WhatsApp chats. The recruitments took place in August 2025, with appointment letters distributed by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on August 6.
