An $11.2 million upgrade of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue will help bring new vibrancy to a Mobile neighborhood that once boomed with Black-owned businesses, city and county officials said at a groundbreaking Wednesday morning.
More than one month after work began on a $16.79 million project to completely renovate 17 blocks of St. Louis Street, Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson and Mobile County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood lifted shovels to start a similar reconstruction of more than one dozen blocks of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue between Butchers Lane and Broad Street.
