ATLANTA — The man accused of traveling to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport intending to commit a mass shooting was denied bond during a Wednesday hearing in federal court in which his lawyers asked for bail.
The suspect, Billy Joe Cagle, is in federal custody after the alleged shooting plot was thwarted by police on scene at the airport earlier this month.
The proceeding also touched on his current and past mental health evaluations. In the hearing, federal prosecutors said that Cagle's past mental health history includes him suffering from both bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, while also not complying with his medications and having a history of substance abuse challenges.
