Men at risk of committing gender-based violence in Timmins now have access to two free in-person counselling sessions within 5-10 days of calling 211, where they can also be connected to a counsellor to help them get through an immediate crisis.

“I think men wait until the last minute to seek services,” said Tania Duguais, executive director of Timmins Family Counselling, the local partner agency for the province-wide initiative.

She added men can also call her centre directly at 705-267-7333 during regular office hours.

“When they call they should have called three years ago. They don’t seek help right away,” Duguais said in a Wednesday interview at her office on Wilson Avenue.
