LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Metro Police Department hopes the community will support its new public safety initiative, which relies on cameras to combat crime.
The new initiative is called Connect Louisville . It uses cameras to help fight crime.
At a news conference, Mayor Craig Greenberg, D-Louisville, said, “This program empowers residents and business owners to use their own cameras to be a part of the solution.”
There are over 270 registered cameras. With registration, LMPD investigators cannot access a resident’s live video stream. They’d only know a camera is at a location and would contact the homeowner by email if officers needed help to solve a crime in the area.
According to Greenberg, there are 1,392 cameras integrated into the system. Integration requires businesses
