TOLEDO, Ohio —

Toledo Fire and Rescue is getting brand new ambulances in 2027, but the department says it's not soon enough.

TFRD is asking city council to approve funds for used units to fill a gap until the new ones arrive.

"Unfortunately, we're in a — I don't want to say a dire situation, but we're in a very difficult situation right now. This is a nationwide problem. This isn't a city of Toledo problem," fire chief Allison Armstrong said at an October city council meeting.

The chief said that since very few companies manufacture medical units for stations across the country, there is a major wait in arrival time.

The department is hoping council will approve $120,000 for two used units.
