QUINCY (WGEM) - Benefits for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will not be going out on Nov. 1.

This lack of benefits means many food pantries are seeing more people.

Sarah Stephens, executive director at Horizons Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry, said she is even seeing families come to the food pantry they haven’t seen in years.

Typically, Stephens said Horizons tries to give each family enough food for one week, but with the amount of people coming to the food pantry, they are struggling to keep. They have been able to restock, but she said it still isn’t enough.

“We’ve already seen the impact already,” Stephens said. “Food pantry was open on Sunday here from 2-4 and unfortunately we have to turn away 60 individuals because we simply did not have enough food.”
