COLUMBUS, Ohio — As nearly 1.5 million Ohioans rely on SNAP benefits, uncertainty in Washington, D.C. is prompting many in central Ohio to take care of one another.
The Columbus Blessing Boxes organization says it has seen a surge of donations in the last two weeks. The nonprofit has over 150 small boxes across central Ohio, allowing anyone to “take what you need” from boxes filled with nonperishable food and other essential items.
“The community has stepped up like we haven't seen since pandemic days,” said Gretchen Davis, founder of Columbus Blessing Boxes.
Davis started the project in 2018 with a simple goal.
“We started this in 2018 as a way to show our young children how to give back,” she said.
