Do better, Lorenzo Semple. I was disappointed when I read the Oct. 9 Aspen Times column vilifying the reopening of Hunter Thompson’s death investigation. You’ve exacerbated what you claim frustrates you: public discussion and media noise around Hunter, his death and legacy. Was that complaint in earnest, or simply part of a rhetorical attention grab?
What concern me more are several of the statements made.
● First: suicide. You’re right about one thing: Hunter is still dead. He can’t read your words. You know who can? People battling suicidal thoughts and inclinations. Suggesting that people experiencing temptation toward suicide are selfish or disgusting actually increases their motivation to take that final desperate action.
