WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) - Members of the Wheeling Fire Department gathered today at Heritage Port to honor firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The Fallen Firefighter Memorial Ceremony is held on this day each year in honor of Assistant Chief Robert Foster.

This year's event recognized the growing impact of mental health challenges associated with firefighting.

It also included an invocation as well as the reading of the names of ten fallen firefighters along with a traditional bellringing.

October 29th represents the day that Asst. Fire Chief Foster was killed, in the line of duty, at a fire in Center Wheeling, here in Wheeling. So that's why we have our ceremony every year on the anniversary of his death."
