LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky celebrated the opening of a new thrift store, The Thrifty Cat , an idea founded by students for students.
The new, one-of-a-kind store opened Friday, Oct. 17 and gives gently used items a new life and home.
“I’ve especially seen an increase in donations since the grand opening; we’ve gotten a variety of things, mostly clothing,” said Olivia Smith, Thrifty Cat founder.
The Thrifty Cat is in the basement of Blazer Dining Hall. Smith got the idea after interning with UK recycling’s Sustainability Internship Program and being asked to come up with a program aimed at encouraging re-use.
