STATESBORO, Ga (WSAV) — The city of Statesboro held a groundbreaking Thursday for a new fire station for the Statesboro Fire Department (SFD).

Fire Station #3 is expected to be completed in the summer of 2026. It will be located off of Brannen Street across the road from Statesboro's Social Security Administration Office.

The total project cost is expected to be $4.8 million and will be funded by SPLOST or special purpose local option sales tax revenue.

Statesboro District 4 Councilman John Riggs told WSAV the project has been in the works for a while.

"We have been looking for a place to put a third fire station for 15 years, for the long as I can remember," he said. "It just it just kind of fell into place."
