On Thursday at 4:52 p.m. the National Weather Service released a flood advisory in effect until 6:15 p.m. for the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island as well as Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties.

The weather service comments, "Minor flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected."

"Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas," explains the weather service. "Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely."
