CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — An infant died days after a crash that was caused by speed and impairment, officials said Thursday.
The crash happened on Settlemyre Bridge Road near White Oak Drive in Catawba County around 9:10 p.m. on Saturday.
Christopher Houser, 40, was driving a Nissan Altima east on Settlemyre Bridge Road when his vehicle crossed the westbound lane and struck an Infiniti Q50, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Houser, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene.
The driver of the Infiniti, Isrrael Suarez-Harnandez, 22, sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to an area hospital. An adult passenger and two children in the vehicle were also hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, troopers said. One of the children died on Wednesday.
