Shoppers in Darlington have been warned about the health and safety risks linked to counterfeit products. Trading standards officers have issued a joint warning with Darlington Borough Council about fraudulent goods on the high street and online.
Last year, the council seized several bags of counterfeit perfumes in the town centre with packaging designed to mimic genuine brands. The council's trading standards team said perfumes have previously been found to contain unknown and potentially harmful chemicals which can cause skin irritation, allergic reactions and even toxic effects.
