LANSING, Mich. — Michigan will host a multibillion-dollar artificial intelligence infrastructure facility in what Gov. Gretchen Whitmer called the largest single investment in state history.

The OpenAI Stargate project, built by Oracle and Related Digital, is expected to create more than 2,500 union construction jobs and 450 permanent positions at the site, with another 1,500 jobs anticipated across the county, Whitmer announced.

The facility will be among the most advanced AI infrastructure sites in the U.S., officials said. The more than one-gigawatt project will use existing power supplies and a closed-loop water system that won't draw from the Great Lakes, according to the governor's office.
