NEWAYGO COUNTY, MI – Two children were hit by a van while they were crossing the road after a driver allegedly disregarded a crossing guard on Thursday morning.
Deputies responded to the crash at 7:37 a.m. Oct. 30, on South Division Street near Church Street in the Village of Hesperia, the Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Deputies said a 26-year-old woman was driving a southbound van when she allegedly disregarded a crossing guard, hitting two children who were crossing the road.
The crash sent two boys, ages 6 and 12, to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. The 12-year-old was later released, while the 6-year-old was reported to be in stable condition, deputies said.
The driver was not injured.
