A former Canberra soccer coach has been accused of abusing a child in what a magistrate described as "serious allegations about an abuse of trust".

Former coach for the Brindabella Soccer Club Robert Jeston, 66, faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday, November 1.

He was previously charged with three counts of acts of indecency and one count of an act of indecency on a person under 16 years old, allegedly committed during the 2010s.

The alleged abuser, who was arrested at his home in Banks on Friday, October 31, coached various Capital Football junior league teams between 2006 and 2018, police said.

The court heard the alleged victim held fears for her safety, and was afraid Jeston or members of his family would menace or harass her.
