Egypt is set to inaugurate its long-awaited museum near the pyramids after years of delay due to economic crises, political upheavals, regional conflicts and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), deemed the world's largest museum dedicated to the ancient Egyptian civilisation, showcases more than 100,000 ancient pieces spanning from the prehistoric era about 5000 BC to the Roman period about AD 400.
Forty kings, presidents and heads of states are set to attend the opening ceremony on Saturday, authorities said, as well as many international dignitaries.
The official inauguration comes a decade after it was originally planned.
