KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — Area churches and organizations are preparing to help those who receive SNAP benefits if necessary.
The Kingsport YMCA, along with others, is looking for ways to provide help for those in need.
The YMCA will be starting a program on Saturday for kids 18 and under, where they can come to the facility and get a meal.
Senior Director of Camp and Feeding Sarah Anne Walker said that they will have a meal for kids Monday-Friday from 4–6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 12:30–2 p.m.
"We immediately realized that a lot of the kids that attend our programs already are on SNAP," Walker said.
Other alternatives for food assistance are churches and other nonprofits.
