GREENWOOD, S.C. —
An Upstate man has spent most of his life in service, helping to keep his community safe. Now he is in a fight of his own, as he was given a troubling diagnosis this year.
Any cancer diagnosis can be scary, but when you have an army, faith, and a quilted blanket, anything is possible.
"Statistically, I'm looking at one to three years," said Chris Wilkie.
Wilkie is known by many in Abbeville and Greenwood as a law enforcement investigator, a server, and a protector. Lately, many around the country are getting to know him, too, after he received a diagnosis from the doctor.
"He looked at me and said Chris, it's not good," Wilkie said.
Wilkie says he was diagnosed with stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer, and it is considered terminal.
