Sallisaw, Okla. (KNWA/KFTA) — Police are investigating reports that a train may have hit a person early Nov. 1 in Sallisaw, though an "extensive" search has so far found no sign of anyone being struck.
Officers responded around 3:15 a.m. to the area near Dogwood Street and Cherokee Avenue after dispatchers received a call about a possible pedestrian on the tracks, according to the Sallisaw Police Department (SPD). A Union Pacific train "immediately" came to an emergency stop in the area upon hearing these reports.
Multiple agencies assisted in the search, which included the use of drones with thermal cameras to scan the scene. After several hours, no victim or physical evidence of a collision was found, according to the SPD.
