A prolific thief who targeted more than 20 shops during a seven-week crime spree has been put behind bars.

Ricky Lewis, who has a 'long history of theft related offences', was arrested in Miner Street, Birchills, on October 26.

He was later charged with 21 shop theft offences, which were committed across Willenhall, Walsall and Bloxwich between September 5 and October 18 this year.

The 39-year-old, of no fixed abode, was jailed for two months when he appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on October 27.

Following the sentencing, PC Matt Smith, from Willenhall Police, who was in charge of the investigation, said: “Lewis is a prolific offender who was targeting local shops and stores.
