Kenai Aviation, a longtime Alaska air carrier known for connecting rural communities across the state, has announced an immediate halt to all operations due to financial insolvency.

In an emotional message on Facebook to employees and customers Monday morning, owner Joel Caldwell reflected on the airline’s growth and challenges over the past seven years, sharing both pride in its accomplishments and heartbreak over the decision to cease flights.

“We are financially insolvent,” Caldwell said that while the company is operationally strong, with full flights and a dedicated team, pandemic-era debt has proven too great a burden to overcome.
