OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) - A rescue effort on Lake Winnebago this afternoon ended with good news, a kayaker reported to be in distress was found safe and unharmed.
Rescue crews were called to the 24th Avenue boat launch in Oshkosh after someone on shore saw a kayaker who appeared to be struggling on the water. The Wisconsin DNR, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, and local fire departments responded, deploying boats and other equipment. The ThedaStar helicopter also conducted a flyover to assist with the search.
Officials said their initial search didn’t locate the kayaker or a kayak, but around 3 p.m., authorities confirmed the person had been found safe. The kayaker had been on a planned trip across the lake.
