The Smithfield School Committee voted to assign the district's lawyers to investigate the district's administrative response and steps taken "to address recent football matters."

Schools officials voted for the investigation late on Monday, Nov. 3 without using the word "antisemitism." The vote took place before a large crowd, including many Jewish Rhode Islanders, who were interested in seeing the panel respond to what the district's critics have described as a "heinous" act of antisemitism.
