Students at Highland Middle School were evacuated to Bellarmine University after a gas leak Nov. 4.
Jefferson County Public Schools spokesperson Carolyn Callahan said an "odor of gas" was noticed around 10 a.m. The school followed emergency procedures, including transporting students to a designated safe location, and officials from LG&E, the Louisville Fire Department and the JCPS Police Department arrived to the scene.
After students were evacuated, officials identified a low level gas leak coming from the school. No student or staff member is seeking medical attention at this time, Callahan said.
Parents have the choice to pick students up from Bellarmine, where they will remain for the rest of the school day. Buses will go to Bellarmine at time of dismissal, and JCPS Nutrition Servi
