Sussan Ley has sought to hose down speculation she will soon be toppled as opposition leader, saying she is "completely confident" she will still be in the job in two months.

Internal tensions have erupted since the National Party formally moved to dump its commitment to net zero over the weekend , sparking feverish questions about whether the Coalition can come to an agreement over the policy.

Ms Ley's detractors have since said a leadership challenge in the new year is "almost unavoidable" , even if the party's first female leader is able to find a way through the climate debate.

By Wednesday morning, Ms Ley was on the defensive, addressing the unrest in her ranks with largely similar talking points across four separate on-air media interviews.
