CHEYENNE – The Wyoming Department of Family Services hopes to release emergency funding for food assistance to Wyoming communities by the weekend.
Friday, Gov. Mark Gordon announced a Public Welfare Emergency in response to the pause in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, directing DFS to create the Hunger Relief Program.
Because DFS cannot put dollars directly on EBT cards, which are the primary distribution method for SNAP, the funds will instead be distributed directly to food pantries.
The program will distribute roughly $1.4 million weekly in financial support to charitable organizations and churches with food banks, pantries and mobile food pantries accessible to SNAP recipients.
