JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) - Polls across Iowa are open until 8 p.m. Tuesday as voters cast ballots for city and school elections.
The ballot includes mayoral races, city council and school board elections, and bond referendums.
Local elections typically see lower turnout than presidential election years, but Johnson County is seeing higher numbers than its last comparable election in 2023.
Early voting numbers exceed expectations
Johnson County passed 4,000 early voters this year, compared to just over 3,400 early voters in 2023.
“We passed four thousand people, which is large for a city/school election. And we hope to have quite a large turnout today and higher than we did in 2023,” said Julie Persons, Johnson County Auditor.
