A Gillette man who was charged with attempted murder after he allegedly tried to shoot a man outside an apartment complex earlier this year will avoid prison time after pleading no contest to a lesser charge.
Jodie Wood had pleaded no contest to aggravated assault, which had been amended from an original charge of attempted second-degree murder.
On Oct. 9, District Judge Stuart S. Healy III sentenced Wood, 55, to five to seven years in prison, suspended for three years of supervised probation.
As part of his probation, Wood must complete a cognitive restructuring course. He also must stay away from drugs and alcohol, including bars, and he may have no contact with the victim.
