A man accused of stealing a trailer and leading deputies on a chase that ended with him crashing into a power pole on mine property in the spring of 2024 has been found mentally fit to proceed.
On Oct. 3, District Judge Michael McGrady ruled that the case against Mark Wayt, 65, can move forward after two psychiatric evaluations, which came to opposite conclusions, were performed by the Wyoming State Hospital.
In the spring of 2024, Wayt was arrested and charged with felony theft and destruction of property. In June of that year, his defense attorney asked for a psychiatric evaluation. Six months later, he was evaluated by the Wyoming State Hospital for about an hour over video and was found fit to proceed.
