BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. —
>>Weather forecast is above
Blount County officials are warning residents about a rise in phone scams involving fraudulent claims of missed court appearances and requests for bond payments.
The Blount County Sheriff's Office said residents are receiving calls telling them they failed to show up in court and need to send money for bond.
They emphasized that these calls are always scams, and bond companies will meet individuals at the jail in person, never taking money over the phone.
If you receive a call like this, you are asked to hang up and call the sheriff's office at 205-625-4127 to verify if the claims are legitimate.
