West Midlands Police has been granted new stop and search powers over 15 hours amid firework gang trouble.

Officers will use Section 60 powers in parts of Birmingham today and into tomorrow, in response to "potential planned disorder".

Pockets of trouble involving young people erupted after several fireworks were released in a dangerous manner.

Members of the public and officers faced attack, police said. Police said there were also fireworks launched by a group towards buildings
